Albert Einstein was an early 20th century theoretical physicist who is credited with numerous leaps in scientific understanding of both the immensely large and incredibly small. Although he is most famously recognized for his theory of relativity, Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Theoretical Physics in 1922 for his work on the photoelectric effect and the realization that light consists of "packets" of qauntized energy.
